Building a basic server – what components should i use?
Me and a few others are doing a project code named ( project UrBaN ) – the whole project has to be done under a very tight budget. ive been put in charge of building the server. instantly i have a problem. – i cant do cheep or ‘budgets’ so i need help on getting the components together so i can build this ‘cheep’ server…
hers what i had in mind! -
- Any Processor Above 1ghz P4 (Must be intel)
- Any Motherboard (must HAVE PCI)
(i allready have a 40gb IDE HDD)

Can some one tell me a basic pc/server setup under my budges (£100 -GBP)
If you can, use a Intel Xeon processor. It is designed for servers. You should use a free operating system – I recommend Ubuntu Server Edition. And use free server software like Apache and MySQL. The rest is not very important. ACTUALLY, you will want a server hard drive because normal ones can be damaged by running them continuously. Try something like a WD Raptor.
